Every once in awhile you get lucky...really lucky! I found this black velvet, 1940s frock at a thrift store in the Halloween dept! The beading on the cuffs and collar are nearly perfect. The velvet covered buttons are all intact, and it is perfectly my size. I paid something like $12! The tag reads, "New York Creation, N.Y. Dress Institute," which is a design guild that started in the 20s. My hat has a huge iridescent coq feather and was thrifted. My gold beaded pumps echo the beaded design on my collar. How serendipitous.

I agree with Janey - what an outfit! You look incredible. Great find.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible find! I always hit the unique sections (costume, ethnic, uniforms, etc) of a thrift store first, as (especially in recent years) I've had a touch more luck finding hidden vintage gems there often than in the rest of the store.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely, timelessly beautiful in your amazing 1940s black velvet frock, dear Hannah.

A really wonderful dress. You're so lucky. The lace or beading details and the velvet button row down the front line make it so absolutely pretty. It suits you like a glove. And your red hair is just the right addition to give it a bit of colour.
