Soda shop (outfit #27)

Today was incredibly windy for a photo shoot.  I decided on a spot overlooking downtown, but when my husband snapped a couple of shots, the wind blew so hard that my skirt almost blew over my head! It was sort of Marilyn Monroe-esque, if Marilyn was on her way to Oz!  Luckily, we drove around a little and found a great spot that was mostly shielded from the weather.
My 1950s cropped tie blouse was purchased at the Denver Modernism Show.  My pink, embroidered, 50s circle skirt is made by Miss Marilyn of Dallas, and was scored at a thrift store.  My pink and white oxford saddle shoes are from ebay.

Polling dress (outfit #26)

Tuesday, November 6th, marks the end of the presidential election for 2012.  I'm really anxious for all the hostile ads and facebook rambling to cease.  I try to keep my politics to myself publicly, but I'm rather passionate about the outcome of this race.  I take my right to vote pretty seriously, and I was downright giddy when I filled out my ballot.  Have you voted yet?!
My 1950s dress is from Sabi, a boutique in Colorado Springs, that sells vintage.  My veil is from ebay and my navy gloves are thrifted.

Alice in Wonderland (outfit #25)

I absolutely love this dress, but it's a bit too fancy for daily wear.  I love a good excuse to break it out of the my closet.  This is a 1950s Candy Jones dress puchased from Robot Exchange.  The antique gold pocket watch belongs to my husband.  The headband bow was handmade by me, using wire ribbon.

Calendar girl

As many of you know, I love vintage trailers!  There's a great website called http://www.vintagecampertrailers.com/ that features restored and original campers from around the country.  It's a great resource for rallies, parts, and even buying and restoring trailers.  They sell cute merchandise too, including a 2013 calendar that it available at cafepress.  I happened to click through the photos and was excited to see, that I am Miss September! The models are all regular people, decked in vintage clothes posing next to their trailers.  If you get a chance, go and check it out.
Happy Wednesday!

Foxy girl

Inspired by the homemade fox costume over at The Paper Mama, I decided to make something similar for Winnie.  I love the idea of upcycling clothing, so I used items in her closet for the platform of the costume and then bought felt and faux fur trim for the ears and tail.  I'm very pleased with how it turned out.  It's just the right mix of vintage and girly frills.  The black satin ribbon and striped legwarmers give it an Edward Gorey woodland vibe.  What do you think?

The ears were made by cutting out four identical triangle shapes in felt (two orange, two black) and two smaller triangles in white faux fur.  The orange and black felt were then glued together, forming two fox ears and the smaller white fur shape was glued on the black side.  I left a little felt flap unglued at the bottom, so there would be something to sew onto the bonnet.

The tail is basically a carrot shape, sewn, flipped inside out, stuffed, and then sewn shut.  I glued a strip of faux fur to the tip and then pinned it onto her bloomers.

Autumn plaid (outfit #24)

I purchased this 1940s cropped jacket at an antique store.  It's a Jack Mann Original, and has the most fabulous Bakelite buttons.  Plus, I found it at the bottom of a bin full of linens so she only charged me $3! My 1950s high wasted wool plaid skirt and pearl choker were thrifted.  My feather fascinator was from ebay (not vintage).

Get along

Here is my little pumpkin in a 1950s Pla-Master western shirt, which I believe was part of a cowboy costume.  I found this at an estate sale in my neighborhood.  I don't know how child photographers do it?!?  Ohlin is four, and hates to sit still and have his picture taken.  When he wasn't giving me a cheesy fake smile, or crossing his eyes, he was pouting or covering his face.  If anyone knows any great tips for photographing resistant kiddos, then please share the wealth...I'm dying over here! :)
